Test for maximum webcam resolution and fps

The webcam tester scans your webcam for supported resolutions and the max fps it can capture those resolutions at.

Check Picture Quality

You can switch to any supported resolution and check the picture quality for clarity, colour, smoothness.

Export Results

The test results can be exported to csv, markdown, xml or json. The result includes the camera name and browser and all tested resolutions.

Free Online Tool

No account, downloads, or software installation required. The code can be inspected in Webmaster Tools and GitHub.

Test Multiple Webcams

The webcam tester works with multiple webcams including front/back cameras on mobile devices.

Is Your Webcam Not Working?

Camera Permission Not Granted

Camera access might be blocked at the OS or browser level. You need to reset permissions for the domain in the browser and/or check if the browser has been granted camera access at the OS level.

Another App Is Already Using the Camera

On Windows, software like Zoom, Teams, OBS or other browsers can get exclusive access to the webcam, making the camera unavailable to the current browser.

Wrong Camera Selected (Multiple Cameras)

If the laptop has a built-in webcam plus an external one, the wrong device may be selected.

Webcam Doesn’t Support Certain Resolutions

Not all webcams support all resolutions. Most webcams don’t handle 4K for example. Unsupported resolutions will be marked accordingly in the results.

Poor Lighting Reduces FPS, Increases Size.

Poor lighting conditions will lead to grainy/noisy video, less detail and colors, lower frame rate and increased size if the stream is recorded as a video file.

Grainy, Blocky, Noisy Image

Make sure your webcam is not in use by another app. The other app could dictate a lower resolution or frame rate. The resolution might be higher than what your webcam supports comfortably.

Blurry Image

A dirty webcam lens will impact the webcam’s ability to focus. Make sure your lens is clean.
