With the newer 2.0 embed code, you gain access to the latest Recording Client features, like screen recording, which can revolutionize your integration experience. Plus, it’s compatible with any Gravity Forms license, making it a versatile choice.
Older 2016 article
The Gravity Forms integration article we wrote in 2016 utilizes the older 1.0 embed code, which is now deprecated. This code has several limitations, including the inability to include more than one recorder on the same web page. Plus, you miss out on the latest recording client features like the responsive UI, seek during playback, screen recording, and new device selector. No reason to follow this article unless you have an existing integration that uses the 1.0 embed code.
Official add-on
The official AddPipe Add-On, developed by Gravity Forms, also utilizes the older 1.0 embed code to integrate (with the limitations and feature reductions mentioned above), and it does not expose all the configuration options that you have access to when using the embed code directly. You also need the more expensive Gravity Forms Elite license to access this particular add-on.

Which approach should I use?
The HTML field plus hidden field method described here. It uses the current 2.0 embed code and works with any Gravity Forms license and any version that has HTML and hidden field types, which is all of them.
What about the official AddPipe Add-On for Gravity Forms?
The official AddPipe Add-On is developed by Gravity Forms. It uses the older, deprecated 1.0 embed code, so it allows only one recorder per page and lacks screen recording, the responsive UI, seek during playback and the new device selector. It also does not expose every configuration option, and it requires the Gravity Forms Elite license. Embedding the 2.0 code directly avoids all of these limits.
I followed the 2016 tutorial. Should I switch?
Yes, when you can. The 2016 tutorial uses the 1.0 embed code, which is deprecated. Only keep it if you have an existing integration built on it; new forms should use the 2023 tutorial and the 2.0 embed code.
What lands in the entry?
The recording name, a short string. The video never passes through WordPress, so entry exports stay small and your host never stores media.
How do I stop empty submissions?
Mark the hidden field as required, or disable the submit button until onSaveOk fires. That event means the recording has fully uploaded.
Can I show the recording in the notification email?
Yes. Merge the hidden field into the notification and build a playback URL from the recording name, or use the Pipe webhook to post the link wherever you need it.
Do I need the AddPipe WordPress plugin as well?
No. The plugin is a separate route that uses shortcodes. For Gravity Forms the embed code in an HTML field is the more direct path, though the plugin's shortcode also works in an HTML field if you prefer it.
